Badgers on a train

Hi Ho Ye Mighty Mighty Dons!

Bit late on the update this week. Apologies - but wow - what a weekend!

Ok the 1st XV first up - with a display of some awesome rugby against Southend to run out 50-17 winners. The match report is up on the website as usual.

The 2nd XV simultaneously decided they were not to be out done with a storming 71-7 victory over the same opposition.

On the Up and Down pitch - the Mavericks also ran out winners - this time against Old Cranleighans with a 50-24 win.

Finally, those old dogs of the strollers also had a win, this time away at Kingston - with a 7-29 scoreline.
A full clean sweep for the men's side.

Another notable result was for the U17s on Sunday, who played Sutton and Epsom aaway and had a hard fought victory finishing up 13-12 winners, in an apparently fab run around.

But what about the Ladies XV I hear you cry?! Well - I had the following from Anna at the Ladies:

Wimbledon Ladies Lied

The scene was set, the team sheet was sent out, the coach was "confirmed", kick off times were arranged and messages of good luck were received, however Wimbledon Ladies did not go to Plymouth, rather than being on a bus at 6am on Sunday morning the ladies were instead nursing sore heads and reaching for the alka seltzer.

We would like to apologise for our deception and our bare face lies but it was all worth it, after months of planning, rearranging fixtures, coaches and gathering friends and family our deception was all worth it because we were triumphant in throwing Meg a surprise 30th birthday bash. Our rearrange fixture against Plymouth will now take place in March. Happy Birthday Meg, we hope that you have a fabulous day on Thursday.

Ladies lying to me?! Nothing new there.

OK - so the main news this week is the top of the table clash between the men in claret and blue and top of the table Tonbridge Juddians. Now - we had looked at a coach for the supporters - HOWEVER - due to logistics both this end and at their end - this does not look like a feasible idea. Thank you all for your interest in it though.

BUT DO NOT FEAR - we are getting the train! Train times from Clapham Junction on Saturday to Tonbridge are as follows:

11.45 to arrive at 12.39
11.54 to arrive at 13.16
12.11 to arrive at 13.22
12.45 to arrive at 13.39

It would be great to see bundles of supporters turning out for this. Wives, girlfriends and non-playing players. Strollers - I am looking at you here!
It will indeed be a great occasion.

Ok - next weekend - we have 5 teams at home on the Saturday including the Ladies - so time for a club shindig. Each team will have been sent their dress code by their team capts/ social side. Youth Parents - be great to have you down for beers and merriment. That's Sat 28th - CLUB PARTY. Done.

And Finally..........

Whilst walking to the club last Saturday, 2nd XV centre Finn decided to enlighten your dear scribe with the tough regime of having 12 centres vying for spots in the 1s and 2s squad. He was impressed by the leadership of Director of Rugby Mark Percival in this matter - however he did say of him (completely without prompting - honest) that his haircut must have been fashionable at some point in the past - maybe Percy just decided to stick with it but he couldn't see why.......?
Seems like that competition for a starting spot got just that bit tougher Finn!

Also on Saturday another centre in that group decided after a few ales to tell me a story about 1969. I wasn't sure if he was on about the year - or a Bryan Adams track - when he suddenly fell asleep - right in the middle of it. Most bizarre.

OK - that's enough from me for now.

See you soon.

Big Love

Badger
