Howdy merry folk of Barham Road!

Well that is a great title to pop up so early in the season!!!!!!!

Yes we have had our first clean sweep weekend with all three Wimbledon sides recording victories;.

To start that off, and as it is their first victory of the year I thought we would give some kudos to the ladies XV and have their match report first up:

Wimbledon Ladies 24-12 Guildford Gazelles

On Sunday Wimbledon Ladies were at home to Guildford Gazelles, after a tough couple of weeks the ladies were rewarded with a much deserved win. Within minutes Wimbledon were awarded a penalty directly in front of the post, this was converted into 3 points by captain Hannah Gutteridge. Winger Emily Martin scored her first ever try having only taken up rugby this season, a beautiful run from just inside the oppositins half down the left wing and scored under the posts, first half tries also came from Karen Williams and Rachael Dark, 2 of which were converted by Hannah Gutteridge. Guildford came back at the end of the first half and scored a try in the left hand corner. The ladies were put under pressure in the second half and conceded another try which was duly converted, however having dominated the game for 70% of the match it was Wimbledon Ladies who took the points this weekend. A big thank you to Karen Williams and Lisa Poulton for stepping out of retirement to lend a hand yesterday. Also a massive thank you to those who came down and supported, your support was very much appreciated. The ladies have a rest week next week, their next fixture is away to London Welsh on 2nd October

The day before saw the men in Claret and Blue show yet more heroics with both the 1st and 2s playing host to Hertford. Both sides recorded victories and it was particularly good to see the 2nd XV find their groove. 1st XV won 34-27 and the 2nd XV won 25-12. Match report for the 1st XV is up on the website and that was a cracking game - very well done to all involved!

Ok onto more exciting news - we have our first party of the year planned. The social committee have been hard at work and we are bringing back the old classic of Wimbledon RFC - THE HALLOWEEN PARTY!

Yes it's back and will involve silly games - top tunes and a number of surprises. This event is open to everyone at the club and friends, wives other halves - everyone. We would particularly like to invite our netballing chums and (newly added to this list) our friends at the Wimbledcon Windmilers.

The event is going to be £5 on the door - just to help with the costs and that will take place on Saturday 29th October. There is no women's game on the Sunday - so everyone can attend!

One final note - there is a theme for this party - and it is going to be (I can't believe I am actually encouraging this) - BAD TASTE HALLOWEEN..... so surely nothing could go wrong with that. See my costume above...

Don't forget - that we also have the NYE party scheduled for .... funnily enough - New Year's Eve. More details about that will follow later. However one member of the social team ...ahem Cookie... ahem - genuinely asked me what date we were having our New Year's Eve party on. Not even lying. I have very rarely had cause to stare in amazement at Cookie - this time I did.

Right that's enough from me. Everyone is playing next weekend as we see a welcome return to the Strollers who will be kicking off their season.

Any questions - ask someone else!

Big Love

Badger
