Welcome to John Woods and many thanks to Mike Keane

Wimbledon Executive Committee

Dear club members and supporters I am writing to let you know that at the meeting of the exec’ on 2/11/15 the WRFC executive, in their finite wisdom elected me as chair of the committee.

The vacancy has come about as Mike Keane aka Keano has opted to stand down as chair but, very much remains our president, fixture secretary, hand shaker etc.. Mike has been an active member of the club for more years than he wants to own up to and I want to reiterate my thanks for all he has done as chair particularly for the past few seasons. Mike may have opted to cease to be chair but he is not stepping away so you’ll still see and hear from him. I am afraid that includes the infamous president’s lunch jokes. Please don’t hold that against him and say a thank you yourself when next you see him, or you could even buy him a pint.

It has long been practice at the club that the AGM elects the voting officers of the club and they then elect a chair from among them. In the past however this post has been a most onerous one as it has carried with it an inexhaustible list of responsibilities, as previous chairs will attest. We have now spread the workload more evenly, thanks to a full committee made up of people who more than pull their weight. So the chairs role is thankfully no longer what it was, but I will do my best to make a positive contribution.

For those of you that don’t know me I have been a member of the club for some time having played several seasons with the strollers and had an active role with the development of our mini and youth set up. I am around the club quite a bit one way or another so if we haven’t met please do come along and say hello and maybe tell me how you’d like to get more involved with further improving our club.
If you want a reminder as to who makes up the rest of the committee take a look in your handbook and they are listed at the end of this along with a few other key roles. Copies available on the bar if you have not got one. By looking at this you’ll know where you can go to direct with your offer of help.

We usually meet on the first Monday of each month at the club and the meetings are open for anyone to attend (although there are only 9 voting positions.) If you do want to come along please let Meg (Hon Sec) know and this is especially so if you’d like to try and get something on our agenda.

I’m so proud to be involved with this club and looking forward to continued fun and success.

John Woods
