Musings from the Badger

Well good afternoon you mighty Dons!

Well that was quite some weekend, especially if you managed to travel to Sutton and Epsom and enjoy that that little encounter (smug face).
Yes the boys in the 1st XV went away on Saturday and came back with a triumphant 43-13 win to continue their fantastic start to the season.
If you need perking up have a read of Tony Mann's match report here - it makes for a cracking peruse!

The 2nd XV fared less well unfortunately away to Chinnor Falcons with a brave defeat coming home 23-5.

The newly reformed 3rd XV, under the tutelage of Jon White had more success with a barn-storming 86-15 win over London Media. Match report follows:

Great start to the season from the 3's who fielded a team that wouldn't have disgraced the 1st team a few years ago.

A strong mix of ex first teamers (Chris and Ed Lewis, Big Gav Tusini welcome to the 3's), ex Pro's (Ian Davey, Darren Clayton welcome to the 3's) and newbies put on a great display in the rain running in 10 tries against, an at times bewildered, London Media. The first half was all about the backs, running great lines and cutting through the media defence with lovely hands and strong carries. With the rain coming down the forwards took over in the second half being more direct and showing we had the power game in the locker too, Chris Lewis , Mal English and Charlie McKibbon all putting in a shift.

Special mention to the new additions in Alistair (4 tries), Jake making their Wimbledon debuts who will undoubtedly play for the senior squads during the season and big Chris Martin who showed the full skill set starting at centre and ending up at prop !!

Week off next week for the more senior members of the squad to rest up ahead of our first league game on the 24th.

The Ladies yesterday went to Drybrook and had a tough afternoon going down 52-5.

Yesterday the ladies travelled to Drybrook, their opposition were a determined bunch. Wimbledon's try was scored by Zoe Leake, the try came from a beautiful run, breaking through the defence's line midway into their half. Next week they are at home to Guildford Gazelles

I am led to believe they threw themselves into the River Wye on the way back to wash the result out of themselves...... right next to no swimming signs - the little rebels. I told you their bus trips were out there.

Right onto this week. As I mentioned last week we have lunch at the club this Saturday. This now will not be the changing room opening which will instead be taking place later in the season. We would love to see as many mini and youth parents in attendance as well as our netball team. And for you Strollers - this is your pre-season warm up. You have been told. Failure to attend will result in fines later in the season. Kerr will be handing them out - its not worth the risk - trust me.

This week sees training as normal - however I wish to highlight Thursday night touch which is open to all members of this club. We would love to see more mini and youth parents get involved and come and run around with the seniors and the strollers on a Thursday night. It is really good fun - bit of food afterwards and the usually Thursday night darts.

Right, that's enough from me. Have a fab week everyone and hope to see loads of you at the lunch.

Big love

Badger
