A bumper issue from Badger

Good afternoon Ye Mighty Dons!

First up apologies for no Friday email last week with all the team sheets. I was heavily berated by the full clan of Old Farts on the touchline last Saturday despite my protestations that I do occasionally have to do some work..... unlike them and the full time golf / afternoon snooze lifestyle......

Right - down to business.

First up - congrats to everyone who was involved in the Comedy Night last Friday - my understanding is that it was considered to be a resounding success despite some last minute changes.

Now onto the weekend's results:

The 1st XV were at home to Chichester and recorded a thrilling 45-25 victory. You can read the match report at the usual place
This result sees the 1st XV finish the league in their highest ever position of 2nd and guaranteed of a promotional play off match on 29th April! - All this with three games to go - what a superb effort.
The 2nd XV travelled to London Irish Wanderers and secured a very impressive 7-67 victory.
The Mavericks of the the 3s went even better and travelled to Guildford and secured a 0-80 victory. This result means they are likely to end their season with a top of the table play off against local rivals Battersea Ironside - who pinched the league last year. Ooooh the drama!
Finally the Strollers had their final outing of the season. Unfortunately they went down 0-50 against a surprisingly strong Law Society team and finished the season second in the league by two points. Considering the huge age range in this side - that is a remarkable achievement - having had players on the pitch from 17 years old to sixty-somethings. Having had the fun of helping to manage this side this season it was a real laugh chaps and very well done. Congratulations to all the U18s who have progressed to playing some men's rugby with the old timers this season and we look forward to you guys starring for the club in the future! Well done on your end of season beer up after the game and for putting some dashing fellow into a dress.

That's all of the fixtures from last weekend. So now - as you can tell - we are very much at the business end of the season. This means we have some dates for the diary.

END OF SEASON DINNER CLAXON! - this will be on Friday 12th May. Get it into your diaries. Lets start putting tables together per team. As usual we open our invite to the U18s and a parent of their choosing, as they finish their time in the youth section of the club and advance into the seniors....... they grow up so fast.....

More details on this to follow soon - but please get this date into your diaries.

PLAY OFF WEEKEND!!! I have already mentioned this but it will be Saturday 29th April. The biggest game in our club's history. This club that the first laws of rugby football originate from.
It's going to be a biggie! We Need You! Let's paint that touchline claret and blue!

Finally - the Big Braai!
Over the years our club has had a close involvement with the South African community and it is one we celebrate and cherish.
There are posters up about this on the web but it is a huge Braai with legends Schalk Brits, Francois Low and Schalk Burger. This is happening on Wednesday 3rd May and tables of ten are coming in at £750. This is a really special event so book now to avoid disappointment by emailing brian@tight5events.co.uk

Right that is quite enough from me. Have a great rest of week everyone.
I am off to investigate how article 50 affects the movement of Badgers in and around Europe. Cheerio!

Big Love

Badger
