Well what a cracking start to 2017 that was.

Good Afternoon Ye Mighty Dons,

Well what a cracking start to 2017 that was.

On Saturday we saw the 1s and 2s travel to Hertford and both coming away with strong victories against two very tough teams. The 1st team won 14-26 and the 2nd XV won 21-36. Two fantastic results away from home. At time of writing there are no reports up online but they should be very soon.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Ladies XV to carry on the momentum and they delivered in spades with a awesome 19-7 win over London Welsh. Anna sends in the following:

On Sunday the ladies played London Welsh in a game that they needed to win to guarantee they will be playing championship rugby again next season. From the off the game was hard fought. London Welsh put up a strong defense and really took the game to Wimbledon, however Wimbledon played with a calm confidence and stuck to the game plan, it was a game in which forward play dominated but nothing can be taken away from the backs who played some of the best rugby they have played all season. 2 of the Wimbledon tries came from wing Emily Martin who flew down her wing to score both of her tries under the posts, the 3rd came from forward convert Zoe Leake, captain Hannah Gutteridge converted 2 tries. Next week sees the ladies travel to Plymouth, everyone loves a bus trip!

So a very impressive weekend for the club as a whole.

Righty ho - quick bit of news.
Calling all egg heads - the club's annual Quiz will be taking place on Friday 24th February. Posters will be going up very shortly - but keep this date in your diaries as it is always a corking night out and definitely one to help you forget the horrors of Dry January.

Supporters lunch. We have a number of teams at home this Saturday and as usual the club will be hosting a supporters lunch. As ever it is £12 for 2 courses and fab company. Shaun has a particular offer this week is that the 1st four tables of 8 booked up for this weekend get a free port pre-match to warm the cockles. The tables after that get John Woods reading extracts from his autobiography: "My Stroganoff."
Let me know if you would like to attend - these lunches are always good value.

Finally - everyone at the club would like to wish coach Nick Evans a speedy recovery from his head injury whilst playing for Quins against Sale. We hope you get well soon big man.

Right that's enough from me. I am off to try and contain my excitement for the club committee meeting tonight. Hurrah.........

Big love

Badger
