God Rest Ye Merry GentleDons

Let nothing you dismay! A festive turn to start this week's waffle I feel.
Ok so another big weekend of top flight Wimbledon RFC action has just passed and as we wind up for the Christmas festivities I have a few notices to part with this week.
First up - here are last week's results:

1st XV vs Westcombe Park - lost 26-18 - match report on the website
2nd XV vs London Scottish - won 34-17 - no match report as of yet
3rd XV vs Battersea Ironsides - won 26-15 - never a match report
Ladies vs Swindon Supermarines - lost match report:
On Sunday the ladies took on Swindon Supermarines in what was a hard fought close match. Both sides wanted the win and fought hard. The Wimbledon forwards were dominant for most parts of the game at the scrum and line out and the backs moved worked well to gain pitch territory, Wimbledon spent most of the game in the opposition half. An interception by captain Hannah Gutteridge lead to a beautiful try by Alex Chung who moved from the centre to wing for this game, the other Wimbledon try was scored by fellow winger Charleerose Chippett. With 14 minutes to go and the refs patience pushed one time too many prop Anna Yeardley was shown a yellow card for a seemingly high tackle, it was during this time that Supermaries took advantage of their extra man on the pitch, they mounted pressure on the dons defense and were able to convert this pressure into a try, the ladies were disappointed to finish 10-15 in a game where they played some great spells of rugby. Onward and upwards the ladies are back in action away to London Welsh on 10th January

There has been some speculation as to why there is not a weekly match report for the 2nd XV. After consultation with their players, yours truly found out that match reports were only written once a player had "earned" the right to be in one and then they would feature heavily. Something about favours for sailors was mentioned. I'm not sure what that means myself. I need to look up who featured heavily in their last one....?

A very swift congratulations to the 3rd XV who this week went top of their league going into Christmas and are looking to stay there. Captain Taff was reported as saying "If we don't win this league I'm changing my name to Susan." You heard it here first!

Right onto this week. Saturday sees a few final festive fanfares (nice alliteration I hear you cry!)
The 1st XV play Hertford at home
the 2nd XV play Twickenham away

However one of the big bits of news is we welcome the U21s back to the fold after their autumnal term at uni. They will be playing at home with a 12.30 kick off. It would be really great to have some large scale support down for that fixture.
In addition we have the usual lunch at home as the first are playing/ £12 / head for two great courses and with only a few teams playing there is no excuse for not getting down to cheer the guys on.

Thursday night touch. This is the last one before Christmas this week and it is usually a bit of a do so it would be great to have more numbers down this week. We would also like to call out to mini and youth parents to come down and get involved. It is a long-held tradition at the club and it is a really good bit of fitness and rugby fun.

Swift bit of admin. In case you haven't noticed we have a fair bit of building work going on at the moment. This Thursday only the showers on the left hand side (nearest the road) of the facility will have hot water - they will be running as normal on Saturday. In addition the 1st XV changing room is likely to be out of bounds for the next day or so.

Coming up in 2016 - we need to get a men's touring venue confirmed. Dangerous Dave Roberts has just been nominated to co-ordinate that - as club captain.

That is probably all from me for the now. It gives me great pleasure to wish you all a very happy and safe festive period. Let's look forward to a bright 2016 and second half of the season. The club is in some of the rudest health I have seen it in for many a year. Thank you to all the coaches and committee staff who put so much hard work in - and also to Mick and his team for making us week-in and week-out the best rugby venue for miles around. Also a big shout out to Groundskeeper Philly and his team as well for keeping our pitches looking great.

Have a great Chrimbo chaps and chapettes and if I don't see you before - see you in 2016.

Big Love

Badger
