Craig Newby to join Wimbledon RFC

After the recent announcement about Collin Osbourne leading the coaching team at Wimbledon RFC, today the club announce the arrival Craig Newby in a new role as forwards and defence coach.

Newby’s responsibilities will be to drive the set piece and defensive capability of the senior men’s teams as they look for a return to National Division 2.

A talented back row and capped All Black player with 2 premiership titles in his time at Leicester Tigers, Newby turned to coaching when he retired in 2012.

Incoming Newby said, ‘Both my playing and coaching career has been defined by my desire to take on new challenges. The reality of the London SE premier league means teams have to keep their process and shape through multiple phases of defence. Wimbledon RFC want to build a massive defensive reputation and that’s what I am here to do.’

Jim Green, Wimbledon RFC Club President said, ‘Last year, hand on heart, we were a little disappointed to finish 3rd in the league. Starting on June 25th with pre-season, we are looking to go better in the 2019-20 season. A focus on our set piece and defensive capability is key to further success for the club. It’s an old saying but I am a true believer in the adage that forwards set the platform and the tone of the game.’
