Season Finale for the Wimbledon 2's

It has been an extraordinary season for the Wimbledon 2nd XV so far this year with the final hurdle in sight in less than 48hrs at the time of writing. 31 games with 3 losses makes for one of, if not the best season the 2's have ever seen in their history and the players have to be commended for this 100%.

Wimbledon face off against Richmond in what promises to be a ding dong affair in the Final of the Zoo Sports Division 3 competition. Both sides have played each other twice in the round robin league phase with 1 win a piece. Richmond pipping the Dons at the post at Richmond back in October with a score line of 27-26 and Wimbledon clinically returning the favour with a 55-5 home win less than a month ago.

The semi-finals last weekend were titanic affairs between the top four sides in the league. Wimbledon hosting Sutton and Epsom with a closely fought 19-17 winning result and Richmond hosting Rosslyn Park eventually running out 46-24 winners.

Back at Beverley Meads, the lads have been building continuously all season to this event and it will be a tough selection process come tonight at training with an abundance of availability. It must be emphasized however that there won't be 15 players taking the pitch come Saturday but rather a squad of +-35 players that have consistently turned up and out for the 2's this season. Unlike some clubs there is no "loading" of teams at Wimbledon much to contrary belief. Those that have supported us from the side-lines all season will attest to this. It is a squad that has stuck together all season. Training hard, playing hard and partying hard. As it should be. They have developed a fantastic camaraderie which is sorely lacking at a lot of 2nd team levels around the rugby community these days. This I believe is what has seen them reach this last stage in the competition for the 2015-2016 season. The ability and want of the team also has pushed players into contention in the 1st team on many occasions and this is what you want as a club. A strong 2's makes a strong 1's. It's that simple.

Whatever the score on Saturday evening, they will hang their heads up high. For the way they have played and in the spirit that they have played this season, I am truly honoured to be associated with a bunch of guys that are true to the core.

All support would be greatly appreciated by the boys for the 2pm kick-off at home.
