From the Badger

Hullo Hullo Hullo you mighty Dons!

Only the one email from me this - it's been that kind of a week.... I would have emailed earlier but I have been giggling a lot about 2nd XV coach Bertie being oh so excited to fly out to SA to watch his beloved Boks - only to see them getting spanked by the All Blacks..... it's the little things that keep me going.

Ok first up lets deal with last weekend. Some cracking rugby played across the board.

The 1st XV went away to Westcliffe and recorded a very fine 55-20 win. The match report can be found here
The 2nd XV also travelled to Westcliffe and also had a return to winning ways with a fantastic 69-14 victory.

Another W for the Wimbledon maverick 3rd team. A strong side put 70+ past Reeds Weybridge who were competitive at the breakdown all game but were beaten squarely in the backs.

The unfortunate loss of Mal English with a nasty looking Ankle / Achilles injury took the gloss of what was another great performance across the team sheet include a number of debuts who made their presence felt.

Finally last Saturday the strollers travelled up to Battersea Ironsides where they pulled off a very memorable 57-19 victory - with parts of the game being played with only 14 players - and the suggestion of a hat-trick for Sam Vitty (although we don't talk about that).

So a clean sweep for the chaps on Saturday.

On Sunday the Ladies played host to league leaders Plymouth Albion. This was always going to be a tough ask but Wimbledon roared out of the blocks with an early try. Unfortunately, with a few injuries Wimbledon weren't quite able to hold out the visitors and eventually succumbed 41-19. It was a fine display and one the Ladies can take an awful lot from going forward.

Onto this weekend and it is very much a rest weekend for the men with only the 2nd XV playing against London Irish at home on Saturday. Team sheet below.
On Sunday the Ladies travel away to the Swindon Supermarines. Good luck to all teams playing this weekend.

Ok in other news there will no training for the men's sides tonight - but there will be touch as usual for anyone wanting a run around as well as netball.

Dates for the diary - Halloween party - 29th October - not November as I may have put in last week's missive..... clearly as a deliberate error to see if anyone reads these things!

Saturday the 22nd is the Presidents lunch at the club. If you want to attend and haven't let Hodgy know please do pass onto me your intentions.
.
ALSO - 11th November - there is a charity pub quiz at the club on the Friday night to raise money for the Polka Children's theatre in Wimbledon. All the details are on the attached flyer - but it sounds like a great fun night - so get your thinking caps on people.

That's enough from me - have a great weekend everyone

Big Love
