Hi Ho Merry Dons!

So the first weekend of the season is done and dusted and an emphatic 25-0 win for the 1st XV over Dorking. The match report can be found here
Time were less fortunate for the 2nd XV. A massive influx of players at Richmond, due to their rise to the Championship sees a number of last year's 1st XV playing down the levels at the club and their class showed in a bruising encounter for the men in claret and blue with a 66-0 defeat. Not one to let hearts drop - this was a big ask and this weekend we can turn that around with a victory against Chinnor Falcons.
The 1st XV travel this weekend to Sutton and Epsom for a much hyped fixture which has seen the old rivals taking to social media with great gusto. I'm sure we will let our rugby do the talking and not trade petty insults on twitter #toobigforbanter

The U21s have their next fixture next Wednesday so keep that evening free as well to watch the stars of the future.

Onto the Ladies who had themselves a very tough ask on Sunday against Bristol Ladies:

Wimbledon Ladies 10 - 62 Bristol Ladies 2s

On Sunday the ladies hosted Bristol Ladies second team, a well drilled side who were relegated at the end of last season. As the score suggested Bristol dominated the scoreline, however Wimbledon Ladies can be proud of themselves despite defending for the majority of the game they never gave up and showed great team spirit, the Wimbledon tries were scored by Angela Brennan and Madeleine Chapman. A massive thank you to Cheese, Chloe and Taz who all came out of retirement to help out. Next week they are away at Drybrook.

Wimbledon Ladies are actively recruiting to strengthen their squad, if you know of any ladies who have played previously and would like to take up the sport again or would like to try their hand at rugby please put them in contact with Anna Yeardley anna.yeardley@gmail.com

We also saw on Sunday the start on the mini and youth seasons and the club was loaded with hundreds of young players - early take up seems to be huge and highlights the great state of membership that the club is seeing at the moment. If you play in the senior section of the club and want to get involved with some of the coaching do contact Dick Dunford to see if you can be of assistance.

Now onto immediate happenings. Next weekend (17th September) we will be hosting a formal lunch to officially open our fab new changing rooms. We are looking to get as many in for this one as possible. Tables will be as usual £15 per head - so please register interest with me or with John Woods. This is a great opportunity for WAGS and family members to come down and enjoy the club that you are a part of and then watch the 1st XV play. We would particularly encourage families of mini and youth players to join in. Meet time for the lunch will be 12.30pm with sit down between 1-1.30pm. Have a ring round your pals and I am sure we can dance the night away. We would also like to extend an invitation to this event to our netball ladies and make sure they are very much a part of this club.

Don't forget to register your interest in the NYE party on the facebook group - this is starting to gain massive traction.

Have a good week training one and all and let's gear up for the weekend all over again.

Big love

Badger
