From your Chairman

Hello all, as Badger has b*********** off again you get to hear thoughts from Chairman Woods this week, so here goes.

First we better celebrate a brilliant result from our 1st team last week. They took on Bury St Edmunds and came out winners 32 -12 BStE were sitting comfortably high in the table and become yet another club to come unstuck at Barham road this year. Particularly pleasing to me, and many others was the fact that a number of our home grown players were instrumental in the win, including double try scorer Daniel Laventure. Nice one lads.
I had to miss this one but I'm told it wa sone of the best performances in a long while so if you're not a regular on our touchline you really are missing out on some exciting rugby.
We've now moved off the bottom of the table and sent out a very clear message this now a stable WRFC team is not one to take lightly. We don't care who you are, just bring it on.

Our 2s were not to be out done and managed to chalk up two wins. Quite a feat don't you think. This came about as BstE could not mange to field a 2nd team so the result is recorded as a 20 -0 win for us. Our neighbours Sutton and Espom said they wouldn't mind a game though and offered to host it, which was nice of them. So the 2s popped over there and beat them 65 -7. A good job well done.

Not to be outdone the Mavericks went over to Old Reigations and came away winners after a 36 - 8 result, another good result and given the Strollers were resting meant we had a clean card last Saturday.

Our Women were not in action last week, probably still resting after their fine 53 - 10 win last week. This, I can tell was great fun as I was there and you should give them a look too.

The mini and youth section decided our pitches couldn't take any more as they were pretty waterlogged after overnight rain so everyone got a lie in last Sunday. They are doing well at that end of the club though as evidenced by Ed Dunford playing for the Harlequins Academy and Bo Roberts getting into the Irish Exciles squad. This added to the handful of other county reps we can boast shows they are fine fine fettle.

Next Saturday is drawing near and out 1s go down to Canterbury who currently sit nicely at 10th in the table. Let's see where they are come full time. It's not far to that that part of Kent so do boost our travelling support and add your voice to the touchline, it could make all the difference. Our 2 will also take on Canterbury so its doubly worth the trip and you can bet on a lively team coach too.

The Mavericks are hoping to host an Esher side so if you can't get away there should be some fun at home for you or you have the option of following the strollers to Old Pauline's and watching the fun there. I do have fond memories of coming off the pitch after playing for the strollers to be told by one of the watching supporters how much they'd enjoyed the game and that it was much better than the 1st team match she'd actually come to watch. Of course she then went and spoiled it by explaining this was because the play was so much slower so she could more easily work out what was going on. I'm sure that can't be said of our current cohort though so do give them some support if your around.

Our Women are off to Guildford to take on their Gazelles which is pretty much local so feel free to support them too. Another clean sweep required this weekend you Wimbledon players please.

In other news we're starting to think of spring cleaning and looking at jobs around the clubhouse, we'll knock a lot off the list at The Nat West weekend, which Meg will tell you all about soon but a few could do with getting sorted now. e.g. Anyone got some basic woodwork skills and fancy helping Shaun give the club tables a bit of TLC i.e. a few screws tightened sand down the tops and nice coat of varnish? Give us a shout if you can help and we'll sort it out.

I'm also on the look out for a club member with plumbing skills well a plumber really. Its quite a small job but it will cost a bit to get a "man" in so anyone with the skills and tools who'll have go for mates rates please get in touch with me too.

Finally all those of you with children need to be aware of the rugby camp coming to Wimbledon soon. Its more than just a camp though and will really give players a chance to hone their skills so do give it a go.

Wimbledon in the Community Half-term Rugby Camps
Weds 14th - Friday 16th February

2018 is here and with it comes the launch of the Wimbledon in the Community Rugby Development Weeks.

There will be a variety of dates throughout the school holidays all year, and up first is the February half term camp running from Wednesday 14th - Friday 16th February at the club.

We have two camps: one for U7s through to U14s and an intro to playing 7s for U17s and U18s. Prices start from £100 for 3 days.

These WITC events will have a multi sport focus, blending rugby and athletic development with the core values of the game; the most important one being enjoyment!

Keep an eye out for the WITC team and their flyers at the club over the next few Sundays.
