Wimbledon celebrated their best weekend of the season so far with emphatic away wins at fifth placed Henley Hawks 19 - 0 and the 2nd XV victorious 26 – 5 against the Henley 2nd XV in the Zoo League. The 1st team’s result was in contrast to the 55 – 26 defeat score line in the Autumn fixture at Barham Road.
Wimbledon scored tries through fullback Matt Gilbert on 15 minutes, no.8 Dan Laventure on 30 minutes and finally through hooker Ben Brooks on 60 minutes. Outside half James Doe converted the first two but in heavy rain was unable to convert the last from wide-out. Part of the match needed uncontested scrums following injuries to Henley front row players.
Wimbledon’s 2nd XV are now in second place in their league with two games in hand on the leaders, Hertford.
Next Saturday Wimbledon will be at home to London Irish Wild Geese with a 2.30pm kick-off.
