In appalling conditions away to Chobham, the Wimbledon 1st XV squad secured a notable win in front of significant Chobham touchline support.

Wimbledon secured their fifth successive win on Saturday, this time against third placed Chobham and it was sweet revenge after their last-minute defeat by Chobham at the start of the season. In a hugely attritional game, played in appalling conditions, Dons did well to hold out for the last ten minutes playing into the full force of the wind and driving rain, particularly with only fourteen men; once again the blue and maroon of Wimbledon’s shirts seemed to offend the referee, as Rich Stewart’s yellow card followed those awarded earlier to Jack Fishwick and Rhys Morgan.

The killer blows for Wimbledon were the two tries they scored just before half time, when wing Pete Scott out-paced his man with ease to finish off flowing backline moves. Captain Neil Hallett was unable to convert from the touchline and had to be content with contributing just two well-struck penalties. As it turned out, with Chobham also scoring two tries and converting one, those two penalties were the difference between the sides.

Wimbledon’s next match is at home on 4th January, when they take on Cobham, just one place lower in the league. Dons will again be looking for revenge, after their ignominious defeat at Cobham back in September.
