Wimbledon Women took on Guildford Women in the first fixture of the new year, with coach Jordan challenging the team to start 2023 with a bang and play Wimbledon style rugby for 80 minutes.
We started where we left off in 2022 - in some pretty miserable playing conditions! But that didn't stop us from running into a 15-12 lead with first half tries from Jade, Sarah and Mia.
As expected, there were many scrums as both teams adjusted to the slippery weather, but the Don's held strong. Special shout out to the ultimate utility player, Gutti, coming in as a 2nd row in set-pieces and still running the game at 10, during open play.
The game was evenly matched, as the eventual 30-27 scoreline shows, but who came out on top? It was the Don's who showed that extra fight in defence and speed in attack to take the win, with a further 3 tries in the second half to give the wonderful touchline of supporters who braved the rain lots to cheer about.
